Business of Visual Art, Working with the Media

FEE: sliding scale

QUALIFICATIONS: I have maintained a studio practice and exhibited my work since 1998 in New York City, Maine, New Orleans, and overseas. Outside of my formal education (BA and MFA), I was fortunate to have a patient mentor who emphasized the value of core organizational strategies such as writing an artist statement and bio, maintaining a c.v., and keeping an archive of reproductions (slides, digital images, photographs) of current and older works. My website and social media presence all stem from these strategies so that my work is easily discoverable. This foundation has aided me in approaching galleries, applying for opportunities, and keeping my business of art together.

ABOUT:Veronica Cross is a visual artist whose practice includes painting, video/film, photography, assemblage, and installation. Enduring strategies in her work are centered in healing and communion, memory, trauma, hyperbolic gender, and employ detritus of material culture as socio-political meditations. Raised in the Northeast and New Orleans, Ms Cross comes from a family of artists, artisans, and antiques dealers and has been active in the visual arts since 1998. In addition to her studio practice, she writes about the arts for local and national publications, and is editing a book of photography. Furthermore, Ms Cross has experience in curating, arts programming, and media consulting. She has occupied creator/performer roles in film and onstage, organized multimedia events, and DJed in small NYC venues. In 2016, Ms Cross received her MFA in Visual Art from Vermont College of Fine Arts. After consolidating credits from The School of Visual Arts, SUNY Empire State College Studio Program, and SUNY at Stony Brook University, she earned her BA in Art and Entrepreneurial Studies (magna cum laude) from the University of Maine in 2014. Veronica Cross lives in Tremé and is a member of The Second Story Gallery. For more information, please see http://www.veronicacross.com
