QUALIFICATIONS: I've been fully operating my art business since 2015, gaining much experience through the process. My goal is to help as many artists as possible create a sustainable way of living through their art by providing insight on professional practices, business programs/tools, as well as what artists should avoid.

ABOUT: Born in 1987, Dirk Guidry was raised in the small bayou town of Galliano, Louisiana. In 2005, Guidry moved away from the bayou to attend the University of Louisiana at Lafayette. The art program helped further his skills as well as develop his own unique style. In the spring of 2012, Guidry received his Bachelor of Fine Arts degree with a concentration in Painting.

His studio is located downtown Lafayette at Basin Arts, where he is the co-creator and manager of the BARE Walls program, and currently serves on the Louisiana State Arts Council. Aside from his well-known large scale abstract works, he utilizes his talents by also painting portraits, landscapes, live events, and murals. His works are on display in various locations throughout Louisiana and is held in private collections nationwide.

  • I have maintained a studio practice and exhibited my work since 1998 in New York City, Maine, New Orleans, and overseas. Outside of my formal education (BA and MFA), I was fortunate to have a patient mentor who emphasized the value of core organizational strategies such as writing an artist statement and bio, maintaining a c.v., and keeping an archive of reproductions (slides, digital images, photographs) of current and older works. My website and social media presence all stem from these strategies so that my work is easily discoverable. This foundation has aided me in approaching galleries, applying for opportunities, and keeping my business of art together.

Additionally, I believe that my artist’s perspective is enriched by participation in various arts communities as a published arts writer, occasional curator, fundraiser and event planner, and member of a gallery collective. I have moderated artist talks, written statements and bios for artists, creatives, and a culture bearer, composed various press releases, and manage media and communications for a church parish and a resale business here in New Orleans. I am an avid art spectator and revel in sharing the work of others.
